Note: Carrot Soaks DO NOT heal eye infections or eye problems. Please take your turtle to the vet.

Domi is a 10 year old yellow bellied slider who adored playing peek-a-boo and rearranging his tank.

Like many of his fellow rescue turtles, Domi had some stool issues that seemed to be caused by an insufficient diet.

To help Domi take in his nutrients, he received his first carrot soak.

It’s super easy to make your own carrot soak for your own turtle and here’s how I created my own. If you’re running low on time, organic baby food (veggies only) are also a great substitute.

This recipe is to make the puree that you will add to water for the turtle soak. This is for a 1:2 ratio of puree to room temperature water. (one cup of puree to two cups of water)

Homemade Turtle Carrot Soak

  • Two medium carrots
  • A medium pot
  • Enough water to cover the carrots
  • Carrot peeler
  • Knife
  • Cutting Board
  • Stovetop
  • Blender

Prepare the carrots by washing and peeling them. Cut off the top and the bottom of the carrot. Toss the waste in the organics bin.

Start boiling your water on the stove, please do not use a microwave. Make sure you have enough water to cover your carrot pieces.

Chop the carrots into 1″ pieces and place them in to the water. Boil them until soft. Turn off the pot of water and allow it to cool.

Once it is cool, remove the carrots from the water and toss them in to a blender. Add the cooled carrot water into the blender to help thin the puree until it looks like baby food. Thin enough to pour, but thick enough to come out in mushy globs.

This makes about 2 cups of puree to be added added to 4-8 cups of water for your turtle to enjoy!

Only do carrot soaks if your turtle is sick or experiencing eye issues. One soak a day for three days MAX. If symptoms persist beyond that, it’s time for a visit to the vet.

Absolutely! It’s an easy way to get nutrients into your turtle if they’re dropping weight or just need a boost.

it’s best to avoid salt water for fresh water turtles.
