It’s no secret that I’m a supporter of my local turtle rescue: Little RES Q. I donate when I can and when I’m unable to, I volunteer my time.

Since the charity is volunteer-run, it’s great to be surrounded by like-minded people who generously donate their time and energy for the good of reptiles all across Ontario.

In recent years, I have been nominated and granted a position on the board. It’s a wonderful opportunity to really speak up for issues that I think are important to the overall mission to rescue, rehabilitate, and rehome reptiles across Ontario.

I have done all sorts of volunteer work for them, including administrative stuff, event planning, event execution, and crafting. In recent years, my position has morphed into a catch-all that includes an official (unpaid) position as their volunteer coordinator as well as social media manager and right-hand-lady of the charity’s creator.

Recently, I completed a website for Audrey’s Legacy Turtle Sanctuary for them. I had a great time building it from the ground up and while I’m certainly no expert with web design, I think I did a decent job. I have such a great time meeting like-minded people who generously gift their time, energy, and creativity towards a common cause. It’s magical to see how many people raise their hands to be the first in line for a reptile expo or to fundraise an event in their own town.
